Most time management issues can easily be resolved with organization and discipline but if you’ve taken on too much to begin with, even the best time management skills may not save the day.  In order to grow your business, gain customers, and keep them happy, you may need to prioritize.

Most Internet marketers cannot manage multiple websites and do it well.  That is, unless they have a staff or other help upon which to rely.  While it’s tempting to obtain more and more sites, especially when one or more of them show a profit, in the long run you may find it is more lucrative to concentrate on one or two sites that you can devote your full attention to than to build multiple sites that you have little time for.

Your Customers won’t Wait

Internet users are impatient. They’re used to finding what they are looking for in seconds, and if one site doesn’t load quickly enough or have what it is they’re looking for, they’ll quickly move on to another site that does.  That means you have to be on top of things at all times.  Being on top of things takes time, research, and dedication.  Many beginning Internet marketers spend so much time building websites that there is little time left to build their business.  Conversely, taking the time to find out what it is your customers and potential customers really want and then filling those orders, whether it is with information or with products, is the key to Internet success.

Change is Inevitable

Seasoned Internet marketers realize that in order to succeed as online entrepreneurs they must keep up-to-date with a number of trends and technologies.  You might have the most successful website one day but if you don’t constantly update it with the latest information and offerings, you can quickly lose your following.

So what does all this have to do with effective time management?  Plenty. One of the most important components of effective time management is not overextending yourself.  With that in mind, devote yourself only to the business interests you can effectively manage and grow.  In addition, you’ll need to set aside time to do the research and/or testing necessary to ensure your continued success.  That doesn’t mean you can’t diversify your interests or build even more successful websites or businesses.  It does, however, mean that you’ll need to make sure you are devoting the time necessary to your present customers in order to keep them happy before you expend more time looking for new customers.

Take the time to find out what it is your customers truly want. Once you give it to them and establish a loyal following, you’ll have time to branch out.
